
“The Motor Expo” or Thailand International Motor Expo, a grand national automotive exhibition, has been a part of the Thai automotive industry for 41 years. Here are 10 important events you might not know about the event over the past 4 decades.

1. The Beginning of the Event
Inter-Media Consultant Co., Ltd. held the first “Motor Expo” in 1984 at Asok Fairground Exhibition Center, under the name “Motor Show '84”

2. Hub for Automotive Industry Development
The “Motor Expo” has received official support from numerous government and private organizations in the automotive industry. The event venue is also used as a central point for seminars and academic discussions, as well as activities that benefit entrepreneurs and consumers.

3. Before Becoming Impact Muang Thong Thani
- Asok Fairground
The legend of the “Motor Expo” began for the first time on July 7-15, 1984, which was the debut of the event as a mediator between manufacturers and consumers at Asok Fairground Exhibition Center.
- MBK Center
In 1985, the event venue moved to the 4th floor of MBK Center, adding over 5,000 square meters of exhibition space and more than 2,500 parking spots.
- Central Plaza Lat Phrao
From December 29, 1987, to January 3, 1988, the venue moved to the 4th and 5th floors of the Convention Hall at Central Plaza Lat Phrao to accommodate the continuously increasing number of visitors. Then, in 1993, the exhibition area was expanded to the parking building of Central Plaza Lat Phrao.
- Impact Muang Thong Thani
In 1999, the event venue moved to Impact Muang Thong Thani, before “crossing over” in 2006 to IMPACT Challenger 1-3 Muang Thong Thani, with an area of 80,000 square meters, which is the current venue.

4. The Event with a “Concept”
The “Motor Expo” was the first automotive exhibition to establish a concept as a guideline for each year's event. It began with the “8th Motor Expo” using the concept “The Enchantment of Pollution Free Technology” to encourage the government and car manufacturers to care about environmental issues, in line with the introduction of unleaded gasoline.

5. Car Giveaway Campaign Begins
1996 was the first year of the event to feature giveaways of a Daihatsu Mira car and a Honda Nova motorcycle. Then, in 2002, the “Buy a Car, Win a Car” campaign was organized, with a Honda CR-V as the prize. Later, in 2014, the “Buy a Motorcycle, Win a Big Bike” campaign started for those who reserved or purchased new motorcycles at the event. For the “41st Motor Expo,” 3 cars and 1 motorcycle are being given away.

6. First Motorcycle Exhibition
The “16th Motor Expo,” held from December 4-12, 1999, marked the first time motorcycles were displayed at the event, catering to two-wheeler enthusiasts. Yamaha was the first brand, attracting a large number of visitors. This was also the year the event was renamed to “Motor Expo” (มหกรรมยานยนต์ in Thai), before its English name was changed to “Thailand International Motor Expo” in 2001 to reflect the event's grandeur.

7. The Only UFI-Certified Event
The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI: Union Des Foires Internationales) has certified the “Motor Expo” since 2012, making it the first and only automotive exhibition in Thailand to receive this recognition.

8. Highest Car Bookings Exceeding 80,000 Units
The “29th Motor Expo,” held from November 29 to December 10, 2012, was the most successful event, garnering 85,904 car bookings and generating over 76,000 million Baht in circulation.

9. Elegant Presenters
The “Motor Expo” pioneered changes in the attire of its presenters (pretties) to be more appropriate, emphasizing elegance and suitability with Thai culture. It received a letter of commendation from the Ministry of Culture and made the event suitable for everyone in the family.

10. Boat Exhibition
A dedicated area for water vehicle enthusiasts, Join Boat, brings together the largest collection of luxury boats from various brands, including yachts, motorboats, speedboats, scooters, and more.
