Motor Expo 2026

In April 2026, 103,794 automobiles were produced, a decrease of 0.44 percent. 4,716 electric passenger cars were produced, a decrease of 1.01 percent.
250 electric pickup trucks were produced, an increase of 6,150 percent. 48,394 units were sold, an increase of 2.54 percent. 13,882 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) passenger cars were sold, an increase of 27.35 percent. 109 electric pickup trucks were sold, an increase of 36.25 percent. Exports amounted to 60,190 units, a decrease of 8.43 percent. 1,924 electric passenger cars were exported, an increase of 191.52 percent. 6 electric pickup trucks were exported, an increase of 100 percent.

Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Advisor to the Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group and Spokesperson for the Automotive Industry Group, The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), revealed the production volume, domestic sales, and exports of automobiles and motorcycles in the country for April 2026. 

Production

The total number of automobiles produced in April 2026 was 103,794 units, a decrease of 22.20 percent from March 2026 and a decrease of 0.44 percent from April 2025. This decrease was due to a 1.70 percent reduction in production for domestic sales, as the combined production of internal combustion engine passenger cars and electric vehicles decreased by 16.77 percent compared to April last year.

However, the decrease in production of pickup trucks for export to the Middle Eastern market due to the war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz may result in export production not reaching the set target if the Middle East war prolongs for more than 3 months.
The total number of automobiles produced from January-April 2026 was 473,545 units, an increase of 4 percent from January-April 2025.
In April 2026, 36,650 passenger cars were produced, a decrease of 8.43 percent from April 2025, categorized as:
•    Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars: 11,870 units, a decrease of 24.15 percent from April 2025.
•    Battery Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 4,716 units, a decrease of 1.01 percent from April 2025.
•    Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 1,738 units, an increase of 68.57 percent from April 2025.
•    Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 18,326 units, a decrease of 1.37 percent from April 2025.

Passenger car production from January-April 2026 totaled 156,599 units, accounting for 33.07 percent of total production, a decrease of 1.83 percent from January-April 2025, categorized as:

•    Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars: 60,402 units, a decrease of 11.87 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Battery Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 15,211 units, an increase of 7.98 percent from January-April 2025. 
•    Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 6,551 units, a decrease of 15.83 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 74,435 units, an increase of 7.71 percent from January-April 2025.

Passenger vehicles under 10 tons and over 10 tons: No production in April 2026, and no production from January-April 2026.

Trucks: In April 2026, a total of 67,144 units were produced, an increase of 4.54 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, a total of 316,946 units were produced, an increase of 7.15 percent from January-April 2025.

1-ton pickup trucks: In April 2026, a total of 65,933 units were produced, an increase of 3.44 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, a total of 311,290 units were produced, accounting for 65.74 percent of total production, an increase of 6.35 percent from January-April 2025, categorized as:

•    Cargo pickup trucks: 46,796 units, a decrease of 6.55 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Double Cab pickup trucks: 200,592 units, an increase of 8.41 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Double Cab BEV pickup trucks: 1,536 units, an increase of 38,300 percent from January-April 2025.
•    PPV pickup trucks: 62,366 units, an increase of 8.27 percent from January-April 2025.

Trucks under 5 tons - over 10 tons: In April 2026, 1,211 units were produced, an increase of 149.69 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, 5,656 units were produced, an increase of 83.58 percent from January-April 2025.

Production for Export 

In April 2026, 67,262 units were produced for export, accounting for 64.80 percent of total production, an increase of 0.26 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, 316,605 units were produced for export, accounting for 66.86 percent of total production, an increase of 4.56 percent from the same period in 2025.

Passenger cars: In April 2026, 14,252 units were produced for export, an increase of 8.68 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, a total of 67,975 units were produced for export, accounting for 43.41 percent of passenger car production, an increase of 24.75 percent from January-April 2025.

1-ton pickup trucks: In April 2026, export production totaled 53,010 units, a decrease of 1.78 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, a total of 248,630 units were produced for export, accounting for 79.87 percent of pickup truck production, an increase of 0.13 percent from January-April 2025, categorized as:

•    Cargo pickup trucks: 25,280 units, a decrease of 18.71 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Double Cab pickup trucks: 176,543 units, an increase of 3.98 percent from January-April 2025.
•     PPV pickup trucks: 46,807 units, a decrease of 1.32 percent from January-April 2025.

Production for Domestic Sales

In April 2026, 36,532 units were produced, accounting for 35.20 percent of total production, a decrease of 1.70 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, 156,940 units were produced, accounting for 33.14 percent of total production, an increase of 2.90 percent from January-April 2025.

Passenger cars: In April 2026, 22,398 units were produced for domestic sales, a decrease of 16.77 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2025, 88,624 units were produced, accounting for 56.59 percent of passenger car production. Compared to January-April 2025, this was a decrease of 15.62 percent.

1-ton pickup trucks: In April 2026, domestic production totaled 12,923 units, an increase of 32.29 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, a total of 62,660 units were produced, accounting for 20.13 percent of pickup truck production, and an increase of 41.10 percent from January-April 2025, categorized as:

•    Cargo pickup trucks: 21,516 units, an increase of 13.37 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Double Cab pickup trucks: 25,585 units, an increase of 67.67 percent from January-April 2025.
•    PPV pickup trucks: 15,559 units, an increase of 52.99 percent from January-April 2025.

Passenger vehicles under 10 tons and over 10 tons: No production in April 2026, and no production from January-April 2026.

Trucks under 5 tons - over 10 tons: In April 2026, 1,211 units were produced, an increase of 149.69 percent from April 2025. From January-April 2026, 5,656 units were produced, an increase of 83.58 percent from January-April 2025.

Motorcycles 

In April 2026, a total of 181,539 motorcycles were produced, a decrease of 4.22 percent from April 2025. This includes 146,306 Complete Built-Up (CBU) motorcycles, a decrease of 6.87 percent from 2025, and 35,233 Completely Knocked Down (CKD) motorcycle components, an increase of 8.56 percent from 2025.

Total motorcycle production from January-April 2026 was 817,426 units, a decrease of 4.29 percent from 2025. This includes 649,233 Complete Built-Up (CBU) motorcycles, a decrease of 5.71 percent from 2025, and 168,193 Completely Knocked Down (CKD) motorcycle components, an increase of 1.64 percent from 2025.

Sales

Domestic car sales in April 2026 totaled 48,394 units, a decrease of 19.16 percent from March 2026 and an increase of 2.54 percent from April 2025. This increase was due to the delivery of electric vehicles, which accounted for more than half of the total bookings at the Bangkok International Motor Show from late March to early April, combined with a significant rise in oil prices due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the release of new car models, and one company commencing truck production after relocating its factory.

Pickup truck sales continued to decline by 9.7 percent compared to the same month last year due to stricter loan approvals by financial institutions, low domestic industrial output growth, and concerns over investment and employment. This resulted in weak purchasing power among the public. The global economy remains at risk from international conflicts and trade wars. 

However, the 2.8% growth in the domestic economy in Q1 2026 and the various projects approved by the Board of Investment might help generate jobs and increase the country's economic growth if they are invested in this year. This also includes the government's 400 billion baht loan to reduce energy imports and increase investment to boost employment in Thailand.

A highly concerning negative factor is the request for price increases for various parts, citing the Middle East war, which will further exacerbate the decline in sales and car production. Therefore, component and automobile manufacturers are urged to exercise restraint given the weak purchasing power for some time.

Passenger cars and SUVs totaled 33,654 units, accounting for 69.54 percent of total sales, an increase of 9.07 percent from the same month last year.
•    Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and SUVs: 7,109 units, accounting for 14.69 percent of total sales, a decrease of 35.18 percent from the same month last year.
•    Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 13,882 units, accounting for 28.69 percent of total sales, an increase of 27.35 percent from the same month last year.
•    Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 1,023 units, accounting for 2.11 percent of total sales, a decrease of 5.54 percent from the same month last year.
•    Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 436 units, accounting for 0.90 percent of total sales, an increase of 100 percent from the same month last year.
•    Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 11,204 units, accounting for 23.15 percent of total sales, an increase of 41.75 percent from the same month last year.

Pickup trucks totaled 9,831 units, a decrease of 10.11 percent from the same month last year. Electric pickup trucks (BEV) totaled 109 units, an increase of 36.35 percent from the same month last year. REEV pickup trucks totaled 4 units (not available last year). HEV pickup trucks totaled 3 units (not available last year). PPV vehicles totaled 2,619 units, a decrease of 16.57 percent from the same month last year. 5-10 ton trucks totaled 1,401 units, an increase of 29.01 percent from the same month last year. 5-10 ton electric trucks (BEV) totaled 16 units (not available last year). Other types of vehicles totaled 757 units, a decrease of 30.93 percent from the same month last year.

For motorcycles sales totaled 136,992 units, a decrease of 16.31 percent from March 2026 and an increase of 3.82 percent from April 2025.

From January-April 2026, car sales totaled 230,477 units, an increase of 15.02 percent from 2025, categorized as:
Passenger cars and SUVs totaled 157,099 units, accounting for 68.16 percent of total sales, an increase of 23.91 percent from the same month last year.

•    Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and SUVs: 37,957 units, accounting for 16.47 percent of total sales, a decrease of 21.54 percent from the same month last year.
•    Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 64,109 units, accounting for 27.82 percent of total sales, an increase of 90.61 percent from the same month last year.
•    Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 2,891 units, accounting for 1.25 percent of total sales, a decrease of 18.40 percent from the same month last year.
•    Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 708 units, accounting for 0.31 percent of total sales, an increase of 100 percent from the same month last year.
•    Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 51,434 units, accounting for 22.32 percent of passenger car and SUV sales, an increase of 24.76 percent from the same month last year.

Pickup trucks totaled 48,324 units, a decrease of 5.84 percent from the same month last year. Electric pickup trucks (BEV) totaled 423 units, an increase of 144.51 percent from the same month last year. REEV pickup trucks totaled 7 units (not available last year). HEV pickup trucks totaled 12 units (not available last year). PPV vehicles totaled 14,746 units, an increase of 16.35 percent from the same month last year. 5-10 ton trucks totaled 6,123 units, an increase of 30.97 percent from the same month last year. 5-10 ton electric trucks (BEV) totaled 36 units (not available last year). Other types of vehicles totaled 3,707 units, a decrease of 22.20 percent from the same period last year.

For motorcycles, sales totaled 605,601 units, an increase of 3.13 percent from January-April 2025.

Exports of Completed Vehicles 

In April 2026, 60,190 completed vehicles were exported, a decrease of 25.13 percent from the previous month and a decrease of 8.43 percent from April 2025. This decline was due to a decrease of 993 units (or 91.76 percent from April 2025) in car exports to the Middle East market, stemming from the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran, which led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and also a decrease in European, Central American, and South American markets. However, car exports increased in the Asian, Australian, and Oceanian markets, which had high market shares of 26.36 percent and 31.23 percent, respectively, as well as increased exports to the African and North American markets, helping to mitigate the overall decline in car exports. Exports for April 2026 were categorized as: 

•    Pickup trucks: 36,615 units, accounting for 60.83 percent of total exports, a decrease of 16.97 percent from 2025.
•    BEV pickup trucks: 6 units, accounting for 0.01 percent of total exports (no exports in 2025).
•    ICE passenger cars: 2,031 units, accounting for 3.37 percent of total exports, a decrease of 75 percent from 2025.
•    BEV passenger cars: 1,924 units, accounting for 3.20 percent of total exports, an increase of 191.52 percent from 2025.

•    PHEV passenger cars: 358 units, accounting for 0.59 percent of total exports (no exports in 2025).
•    HEV passenger cars: 6,713 units, accounting for 11.15 percent of total exports, an increase of 42.80 percent from 2025.
•    PPV vehicles: 12,543 units, accounting for 20.84 percent of total exports, an increase of 53.98 percent from 2025.
The export value of automobiles was 42,942.55 million baht, a decrease of 6.71 percent from April 2025. Engine and component exports also decreased as follows:
•    Engines: export value of 3,213.38 million baht, a decrease of 2.21 percent from April 2025.
•    Other car components: export value of 14,835.78 million baht, a decrease of 6.67 percent from April 2025.
•    Car spare parts: export value of 1,645.53 million baht, a decrease of 19.26 percent from April 2025.
Total export value for automobiles, engines, car components, and spare parts in April 2026 was 62,637.24 million baht, a decrease of 6.86 percent from April 2025.

Motorcycles

In April 2026, 68,170 motorcycles were exported (including CBU+CKD), a decrease of 32.17 percent from March 2026 and an increase of 11.35 percent from April 2025, with a value of 4,858.36 million baht, an increase of 12.05 percent from April 2025.

•    Motorcycle components: total export value of 186.88 million baht, a decrease of 0.62 percent from April 2025.

•    Motorcycle spare parts: total export value of 223.46 million baht, an increase of 41.02 percent from April 2025.

Total export value for motorcycles, components, and spare parts in April 2026 was 5,268.70 million baht, an increase of 12.53 percent from April 2025.

In April 2026, the total export value for completed automobiles, engines, other components, car spare parts, motorcycles, components, and motorcycle spare parts was 67,905.94 million baht, a decrease of 5.60 percent from 2025.

Completed Automobiles

From January-April 2026, 280,184 completed automobiles were exported, a decrease of 3.45 percent from the same period in 2025, categorized as:
•    Pickup trucks: 176,415 units, accounting for 62.96 percent of total exports, a decrease of 5.88 percent from 2025.
•    BEV pickup trucks: 155 units, accounting for 0.06 percent of total exports, an increase of 3,775 percent from 2025.
•    ICE passenger cars: 25,159 units, accounting for 8.98 percent of total exports, a decrease of 39.66 percent from 2025.
•    BEV passenger cars: 7,156 units, accounting for 2.55 percent of total exports, an increase of 984.24 percent from 2025.
•    PHEV passenger cars: 649 units, accounting for 0.23 percent of total exports (no exports in 2025).

•    HEV passenger cars: 27,759 units, accounting for 9.91 percent of total exports, an increase of 62.90 percent from 2025.
•    PPV vehicles: 42,891 units, accounting for 15.31 percent of total exports, a decrease of 1.08 percent from 2025.
The export value of automobiles was 189,161.84 million baht, a decrease of 6.25 percent from January-April 2025, with details as follows: 
•    Engines: export value of 11,935.37 million baht, a decrease of 0.83 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Other car components: export value of 59,478.68 million baht, a decrease of 5.51 percent from January-April 2025.
•    Car spare parts: export value of 7,327.37 million baht, a decrease of 16.25 percent from January-April 2025.
Total export value for automobiles, engines, car components, and spare parts from January-April 2026 was 267,903.26 million baht, a decrease of 6.16 percent from January-April 2025.

Motorcycles

From January-April 2026, 320,343 motorcycles were exported (including CBU+CKD), an increase of 5.61 percent from 2025, with a value of 23,090.47 million baht, an increase of 5.62 percent from 2025.
•    Motorcycle components: total export value of 727.48 million baht, an increase of 4.71 percent from 2025.
•    Motorcycle spare parts: total export value of 953.73 million baht, an increase of 12.94 percent from 2025.
Total export value for motorcycles, components, and spare parts from January-April 2026 was 24,771.68 million baht, an increase of 5.86 percent from January-April 2025.

From January-April 2026, the total export value for completed automobiles, engines, other components, car spare parts, motorcycles, components, and motorcycle spare parts was 292,674.94 million baht, a decrease of 5.25 percent from 2025.

• Passenger cars: 652,896 units, an increase of 28.85 percent from the same period in 2025.
• Hired passenger vehicles (etc.): 514 units, an increase of 1.58 percent from the same period in 2025.
