Production
The total number of automobiles produced in January 2026 was 118,386 units, an increase of 3.98 percent from December 2025 and an increase of 10.53 percent from January 2025. This is due to a 46.56 percent increase in the production of passenger cars for export, a 153.57 percent increase in the production of pickup trucks for domestic sales, and a 76.18 percent increase in the production of trucks for domestic sales. This is in line with private sector investment in Q4 2025. Additionally, this is the first year of producing electric vehicles to offset imports for sale in 2024-2025, under the EV 3.5 scheme.

Sales
Domestic automobile sales in January 2026 totaled 73,936 units, a decrease of 1.58 percent from December 2025, but an increase of 53.77 percent from January 2025. This increase is due to accelerated delivery of electric vehicles under the EV 3.0 scheme, which ended in 2025, as well as the commencement of electric vehicle production at a 2:1 offset ratio under the EV 3.5 scheme. This resulted in passenger car and SUV sales increasing by 76.2 percent and 93.6 percent respectively from January 2025. However, pickup truck sales continued to decrease by 5.5 percent from January 2025, because financial institutions are still stringent in approving loans. This is due to the low growth rate of the domestic economy, weak purchasing power of the public, and the industrial sector still utilizing less than 60 percent of its total production capacity.
However, there are signs of an economic recovery, with growth exceeding expectations at a rate of 2.5 percent in Q4 2025. This is driven by an 8.1 percent expansion in total investment, with private investment expanding by 6.5 percent due to increased flexibility for investors. This led to a 12.2 percent expansion in factory construction, and a 13.3 percent expansion in accelerated government investment. Additionally, imports expanded by 12.8 percent, with machinery imports expanding by 21.8 percent. We must await the new government to accelerate the 1.8 trillion baht investment applications submitted for investment promotion in 2025, to create more jobs and income for Thai people, so that Thailand's economy can grow by more than 5 percent, as in the past.
Passenger cars and SUVs numbered 55,960 units, accounting for 75.69 percent of total sales, an increase of 83.21 percent from the same month last year.

Exports of Finished Automobiles
In January 2026, 58,405 units were exported, a decrease of 6.28 percent from January 2025, the lowest since May 2022, or a 45-month period. This is due to the cessation of production for some passenger car models for export, and stricter import regulations for vehicles lacking safety-assist features, as well as stringent carbon emission regulations. This led to a decrease in automobile exports to Asian, African, North American, Central American, and South American markets. Automobile export categories for January 2026 are as follows:
