
New Car Tax, Starting Jan 1, 69
The new car tax structure from the Excise Department will be effective from January 1, 2569. The new 2569 car excise tax rates are designed to push Thailand to become a future automotive hub and focus on supporting electric vehicles, as well as reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. We have summarized how the new excise tax will be collected for each car group in 2569 as follows:

New Car Excise Tax Year 2569

BEV Electric Vehicle Group
The adjustment of excise tax rates for electric vehicles has decreased from 8% to only 2%. For electric pickup trucks, it has increased from 0% to 2% instead.

PHEV Car Group
- For models that can run on pure electric power for not less than 80 km/charge, the tax is 5%.
- For models that can run on pure electric power for less than 80 km/charge, the tax is 10%.
- If the engine exceeds 3.0 liters, the tax is 30%.
*** Must install at least 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and must use batteries produced in Thailand from 2569 onwards.

HEV and MHEV Group
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions not exceeding 100 g/km are taxed at 6%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 100 but not exceeding 120 g/km are taxed at 9%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 120 but not exceeding 150 g/km are taxed at 14%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 150 but not exceeding 200 g/km are taxed at 19%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 200 g/km are taxed at 24%.
- Engines exceeding 3.0 liters are taxed at 40%.

Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Car Group
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions not exceeding 100 g/km are taxed at 13%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 100 but not exceeding 120 g/km are taxed at 22%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 120 but not exceeding 150 g/km are taxed at 25%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 150 but not exceeding 200 g/km are taxed at 29%.
- Engines not exceeding 3.0 liters with CO2 emissions exceeding 200 g/km are taxed at 34%.
- Engines exceeding 3.0 liters (luxury cars/supercars) are taxed at 50%.

The adjustment of the new excise tax structure in 2569 involves changes in tax rates for several car groups, based on various criteria such as engine displacement (cc), CO2 emission levels, and electric range for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV).
