New startup steps into the Thai SUV market
Leapmotor (Leapmotor), a startup company from China, has partnered with Stellantis (Stellantis), an innovator of modern, robust, and technologically unique solutions, focusing on European-level quality. This allows them to penetrate the top European car markets globally, marking another noteworthy development in Thailand's rapidly growing electric vehicle market. It is certain that by the end of 2024, the new official distributor, PhraNakhon Yontrakarn (PNA), will officially introduce the Leapmotor brand to Thailand with the launch of its first electric SUV for the domestic market, the Leapmotor C10

Electric SUV, European Quality
Leapmotor C10, a medium-sized crossover SUV, is Leapmotor's first product designed for the global market, targeting the European market. It has dimensions of 4,739 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,680 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,825 mm, which is noticeably wider than many competitors. In terms of design, the front grille is a solid design with large air intakes flanked by air ducts, enhancing its sporty look. The car's lines emphasize elegance, conforming to aerodynamic principles, and effectively reducing air resistance.

The LED headlight set is designed in a modern style with a full-width DRL strip across the front, similar to the rear which features a full-width LED light bar. The car's roof is designed in a box shape with dark black trim around the windows to make the car appear wider and larger. The door handles are flush with the body. It comes with 20-inch alloy wheels and 245/45 R20 tires. The Leapmotor C10 will be available in 6 colors: White, Grey, Light Blue, Dark Grey, Black, and Jade Green.

The spacious interior accommodates 5 seats and comes with a choice of 2 color tones: Red Cloud Orange and Star Purple. The dashboard has a minimalist, simple yet high-tech design, which is unique in having no control buttons on the console at all. It features a floating 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel and a multi-function twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. It also has a 14.6-inch central display with 2.5K resolution, enhanced by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, running on the latest Leapmotor OS 4.0 operating system. It supports voice commands, has 4 cup holders (2 front-rear points) and 1 phone charging pad. Additionally, it comes with a 12-speaker audio system providing 840 watts of power, supporting 7.1 surround sound, and a 360-degree camera.

The interior seats are designed for maximum spaciousness. The front leather seats are 10-way power adjustable and can recline up to 180°, complete with ventilation and heating systems. The second-row seats offer a very generous legroom of 1,050 mm and can be configured in a 60:40 split. Additionally, they can connect with the rear seats to form a large sofa nearly 1.8 meters long, catering to travelers, with the maximum flat-folded area extending up to 2.7 meters. The rear cargo space can accommodate up to 7 pieces of 20-inch luggage and can be expanded to 835 liters after folding the rear seats (up to 15 pieces), making it one of the most spacious cars in its segment.

For the powertrain, the 100% electric Leapmotor C10 in Thailand is expected to use a single electric motor, rear-wheel drive system. It comes with an electric motor delivering a maximum power of 230 hp and 320 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.29 seconds. It features an LFP battery pack with two available capacities: 52.9 kWh and 69.9 kWh, offering a maximum range of 360-420 km per full charge (according to WLTP standard).

The highlight of this car model is the LEAP3.0 platform, named "Four Leaf Clover," which is a technology solely developed by Leapmotor. It integrates one System-on-Chip (SOC) and one Microcontroller Unit (MCU) to create a central supercomputing unit, combining various systems, including the cockpit system and intelligent driving system, supporting both EV and EREV vehicles. The vehicle structure has received a 5-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, along with 7 airbags for maximum safety.

Furthermore, it comes with an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) called Leapmotor Pilot, comprising 25 functions from a total of 30 sensors. This includes 11 cameras at the front, rear, and around the wheel arches, as well as LiDAR and 12 ultrasonic radars. It also features 5mm wave radar and an NVIDIA Orin-X as the main processing chip for intelligent vehicles. Leapmotor has developed the car to support large-scale processing for autonomous driving and intelligent cockpits, with the potential to support driving assistance systems from Level 2+ up to fully autonomous Level 5 vehicles. Unfortunately, some functions might be adjusted or removed for the Thai market.
