Motor Expo 2026

The Federation of Thai Industries announced for June 2026, car production of 120,391 units, a decrease of 7.55%. Passenger EV production was 12,634 units, an increase of 282.38%. Electric pickup production was 270 units, an increase of 500.00%. Sales were 58,724 units, an increase of 17.26%. Passenger BEV sales were 22,275 units, an increase of 140.47%. Electric pickup sales were 274 units, an increase of 149.09%. Exports were 81,526 units, a decrease of 7.45%. Passenger EV exports were 292 units, an increase of 7,200%. Electric pickup exports were 19 units, a decrease of 61.22%.

Surapong Paisitpatanapong, Advisor to the Chairman of the Automotive Industry Group and Spokesperson of the Automotive Industry Group, The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), revealed the production volume, domestic sales, and exports of automobiles and motorcycles in the country for June 2026.

Production

Total vehicles produced in June 2026 amounted to 120,391 units, a decrease of 7.55% from June 2025. This decrease was due to a reduction in production for export of passenger cars and pickup trucks by 50.11% and 8.07% respectively, resulting from a decrease in exports to the Middle East by 7,727 units, or 38.35% from June last year. Additionally, pickup truck production for domestic sales decreased by 17.04%, leading to an overall production decrease of 7.55% from June last year.

Total vehicles produced from January-June 2026 amounted to 717,212 units, a decrease of 1.04% from January-June 2025.

Passenger cars in June 2026 produced 48,317 units, a decrease of 5.30% from June 2025, divided into:
Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars amounted to 9,582 units, a decrease of 64.54% from June 2025
Battery Electric Vehicle passenger cars amounted to 12,634 units, an increase of 282.38% from June 2025
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars amounted to 1,571 units, an increase of 395.58% from June 2025

Total production of passenger cars from January-June 2026 amounted to 252,371 units, accounting for 35.19% of total production, a decrease of 4.65% from January-June 2025

In June 2026, 1-ton pickup trucks produced a total of 70,539 units, a decrease of 10.13% from June 2025.

In June 2026, production was 67,784 units, accounting for 56.30% of total production, a decrease of 20.18% from June 2025. For January-June 2026, production for export was 449,161 units, accounting for 62.63% of total production, a decrease of 5.44% from the same period in 2025.

Passenger cars for export in June 2026 produced 12,201 units, a decrease of 50.11% from June 2025. From January-June 2026, total production for export was 93,885 units, accounting for 37.20% of total passenger car production, a decrease of 3.78% from January-June 2025.

In June 2026, 1-ton pickup trucks had an export production volume of 55,583 units, a decrease of 8.07% from June 2025. From January-June 2026, total production for export was 355,276 units, accounting for 77.89% of total production for export.

In June 2026, production was 52,607 units, accounting for 43.70% of total production, an increase of 16.12% from June 2025. For January-June 2026, production was 268,051 units, accounting for 37.37% of total production, an increase of 7.35% from January-June 2025.

Passenger cars for domestic sales in June 2026 produced 36,116 units, an increase of 35.95% from June 2025. From January-June 2026, production was 158,486 units, accounting for 62.80% of total passenger car production, a decrease of 5.15% when compared to January-June 2025.

In June 2026, 1-ton pickup trucks had a domestic sales production volume of 14,956 units, a decrease of 17.04% from June 2025. From January-June 2026, total production was 100,881 units, accounting for 22.11% of total production for domestic sales.

Trucks under 5 tons - over 10 tons in June 2026 produced 1,535 units, an increase of 115.59% from June 2025. Total production for January-June 2026 was 8,684 units, an increase of 98.76% from January-June 2025. 

Motorcycles

In June 2026, motorcycle production totaled 213,232 units, an increase of 3.73% from June 2025, broken down into 183,370 Completely Built Units (CBU), an increase of 4.11% from 2025, and 29,862 Completely Knocked Down (CKD) motorcycle parts, an increase of 1.46% from 2025.

Total motorcycle production for January-June 2026 was 1,261,349 units, a decrease of 0.68% from 2025, broken down into 1,020,194 Completely Built Units (CBU), a decrease of 2.09% from 2025, and 241,155 Completely Knocked Down (CKD) motorcycle parts, an increase of 5.79% from 2025.

Sales

Domestic car sales in June 2026 totaled 58,724 units, an increase of 19.36% from May 2026, and an increase of 17.26% from June 2025. The increase in sales figures is due to the growing popularity of electric vehicles, driven by rising oil prices from the Middle East conflict, as well as government promotions for solar cell installation. Many electric vehicle models are more affordable, with most EV sales coming from imports rather than domestically produced vehicles. This has resulted in a decrease in domestic production of internal combustion engine passenger cars by 34,679 units or 29.21% over the first 6 months of this year compared to the same period last year.

Pickup trucks, which use over 90% local components, still sold only 10,805 units, a decrease of 3.17% from June last year. Pickup trucks used to sell 30,000 units per month before the COVID-19 pandemic, but now sell only 10,000 units per month, decreasing every month for the past 3 years due to stricter financial institution policies. This has led to a decrease in production for parts manufacturers and supply chains. Their revenues and profits have declined, government excise taxes and corporate income taxes have decreased, and the income of workers and employees in parts manufacturing and supply chains has also decreased, leading to more cautious spending. This has resulted in slower investment and employment, and low economic growth in the country. Therefore, the government is urged to stimulate the national economy with large-scale investments and significant job creation to increase purchasing power, enable more debt repayment, and truly reduce household debt. This would allow the government to collect more taxes, invest tax revenues, and create more jobs for Thais to earn higher incomes, finally putting the country in an upward economic cycle.

Passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 42,420 units, accounting for 72.24% of total sales, an increase of 31.53% from the same month last year.

Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 8,114 units, accounting for 13.82% of total sales, a decrease of 33.72% from the same month last year.

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 22,275 units, accounting for 37.93% of total sales, an increase of 140.47% from the same month last year.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 1,469 units, accounting for 2.50% of total sales, an increase of 163.73% from the same month last year.

Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 58 units, accounting for 0.10% of total sales. Not available last year.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 10,504 units, accounting for 17.89% of total sales, an increase of 3.08% from the same month last year.
 
Pure Pickup trucks totaled 10,805 units, a decrease of 3.17% from the same month last year. Electric (BEV) pickup trucks totaled 274 units, an increase of 149.09% from the same month last year. REEV pickup trucks totaled 5 units, a decrease of 16.67% from the same month last year. HEV pickup trucks totaled 5 units. Not available last year. PPV vehicles totaled 2,983 units, a decrease of 26.02% from the same month last year. 5-10 ton trucks totaled 1,496 units, an increase of 10.57% from the same month last year.

As for motorcycles, sales totaled 178,028 units, an increase of 23.89% from May 2026, and an increase of 15.37% from June 2025.

From January-June 2026, car sales totaled 346,966 units, an increase of 14.63% from 2025, broken down into:

Passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 240,426 units, accounting for 69.29% of total sales, an increase of 24.13% from the same period last year.

Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 54,506 units, accounting for 15.71% of total sales, a decrease of 24.83% from the same period last year.

Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 104,418 units, accounting for 30.09% of total sales, an increase of 93.07% from the same period last year.

Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 6,023 units, accounting for 1.74% of total sales, an increase of 20.36% from the same period last year.

Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 839 units, accounting for 0.24% of total sales. Not available last year.

Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and passenger SUVs totaled 74,640 units, accounting for 21.51% of total sales, an increase of 20.23% from the same period last year.
 
Pure Pickup trucks totaled 70,141 units, a decrease of 4.73% from the same period last year. Electric (BEV) pickup trucks totaled 898 units, an increase of 143.36% from the same period last year. REEV pickup trucks totaled 17 units, an increase of 183.33% from the same period last year. HEV pickup trucks totaled 215 units. Not available last year, representing 100%. As for motorcycles, sales totaled 953,353 units, an increase of 5.21% from January-June 2025.

Exports of Completed Automobiles

In June 2026, exports totaled 81,526 units, a decrease of 7.45%, primarily due to a 38.35% decrease in exports to the Middle East from June last year, with market share falling from 20% last year to 14%. Additionally, exports decreased in the Asian, Australian and Oceanian, and European markets, but increased in the African, North American, Central American, and South American markets.

In June 2026, exports totaled 61,705 units (CBU+CKD), a decrease of 24.19% from May 2026, and a decrease of 6.23% from June 2025, with a value of 4,434.19 million baht, a decrease of 12.61% from June 2025.
 
Motorcycle parts exports totaled 767.15 million baht, an increase of 324.19% from June 2025.
Motorcycle spare parts exports totaled 263.54 million baht, an increase of 14.87% from June 2025.

Motorcycles

From January-June 2026, motorcycle exports totaled 463,444 units (CBU+CKD), an increase of 6.25% from 2025, with a value of 33,002.58 million baht, an increase of 4.02% from 2025.
 
Motorcycle parts exports totaled 1,709.23 million baht, an increase of 58.33% from 2025.
Motorcycle spare parts exports totaled 1,512.71 million baht, an increase of 16.86% from 2025.
 
Total export value for motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts in January-June 2026 was 36,224.52 million baht, an increase of 6.23% from January-June 2025.
From January-June 2026, total export value for completed automobiles, engines, other parts, automotive spare parts, motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts was 444,328.41 million baht, a decrease of 6.51% from 2025.

Revised Automobile Production Forecast for 2026

From closely monitoring the automotive industry situation and global economic conditions, the Automotive Industry Group, The Federation of Thai Industries, has revised Thailand's automobile production forecast for 2026 downwards from the original 1,500,000 units to 1,450,000 units, a decrease of 3.33%.
 
The production forecast for export was revised downwards from 950,000 units to 900,000 units, a decrease of 5.26%, while the production forecast for domestic sales remains at 550,000 units, unchanged.

The aforementioned revision in the forecast is primarily due to factors affecting Thailand's export sector, including:

1. The war in the Middle East remains uncertain and tends to be prolonged, with car export volumes to the Middle East decreasing by 38.35% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, due to the continued impact of the closure of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

2. US trade barriers and import tariffs continue, affecting the still volatile global economic atmosphere.

3. The entry of electric vehicles from China into the market affects competition with vehicles from Thailand for exports to various regions, including ASEAN, Australia and Oceania, and other regions.

4. Emissions standards for vehicles in trading partner countries are becoming increasingly stringent.

Revised Motorcycle Production Forecast for 2026

From continuously monitoring the domestic economic situation and the trend of motorcycle market demand, the Automotive Industry Group, The Federation of Thai Industries, has revised Thailand's motorcycle production forecast for 2026 upwards from the original 2,000,000 units to 2,050,000 units, an increase of 2.50%.
 
The production forecast for export remains at 400,000 units, while the production forecast for domestic sales was revised upwards from 1,600,000 units to 1,650,000 units, an increase of 3.13%.

Key supporting factors for this upward revision of the motorcycle production forecast include:

1. Production for export remains at the original target of 400,000 units, as Thailand exports motorcycles to many regions worldwide, it has not been significantly affected by the war, and current orders are still in line with plans.

2. Domestic sales production was adjusted upwards from 1.6 million units to 1.65 million units (with an estimated total domestic market sales of 1.75 million units), supported by factors such as the domestic economic stimulus project “Thai Ruam Jai Plus” which encourages spending circulation in the economy, rising oil prices causing consumers to switch to motorcycles, and the emergence of new microfinance options, helping consumers access credit more easily.
