Sales
Domestic automobile sales in July 2025 totaled 49,102 units, a decrease of 1.95% from June 2025 but an increase of 5.84% from July 2024. This marks four consecutive months of increase due to passenger car sales, especially electric vehicles, which are more affordable than gasoline-powered cars. Pickup truck sales continued to decline for over 30 months, reaching only 11,022 units, a decrease of 16.3% (In 2019, before COVID-19, domestic pickup truck sales averaged 35,973 units per month, equivalent to 35.70% of total sales of 1,007,552 units). This is due to stricter approval for pickup truck loans given high household debt and the low domestic economic growth rate of 2.8% in Q2/2025. Private investment grew by only 4.1%, the industrial sector by only 1.7%, and international tourist numbers, especially from China, decreased significantly, leading to only 2.1% growth in the accommodation and food sector. Private investment, tourism, and private consumption will need to be monitored. It is expected that the annual budget for 2026 will help the country's economy grow more than it currently is.

Thank you to the MPC for voting to reduce the policy interest rate, which helps borrowers reduce their interest burden, allowing them to repay loans more, and household debt to decrease. And thank you to Team Thailand for negotiating with President Donald Trump's team to achieve a US import tariff rate of 19%, which should attract more foreign and domestic investment for exports and create more jobs and income for Thais, leading to reduced household debt from repayment, not from financial institutions not granting loans, which has been declining for several quarters. However, even with Thailand's Trump tariff at 19%, it seems disadvantaged compared to Vietnam's 20% when the Vietnamese Dong has significantly depreciated.

Exports of Completely Built-Up (CBU) Vehicles
In July 2025, 72,439 units were exported, a decrease of 17.76% from the previous month and a decrease of 13.27% from July 2024. This is due to the discontinuation of some gasoline-powered passenger car models for model changes. 167 electric passenger cars and electric pickup trucks were also exported this month. This year is therefore a historic year for Thailand, exporting electric passenger cars and electric pickup trucks, as the government and private sector collaborate to make Thailand a production base for both gasoline-powered and electric vehicles for export to trading partners with differing policies and infrastructure readiness.
However, global economic uncertainty and stricter requirements from trading partners regarding the installation of advanced driver-assistance systems for vehicle safety and vehicle energy efficiency led to a decrease in automobile exports this month to markets in Asia, Australia and Oceania, and North America. Exports of engines, parts, and automobile spare parts continued to increase.
