In May 2025, 139,186 cars were produced, an increase of 10.32 percent, marking the first increase in 21 months. Sales reached 52,229 units, an increase of 4.73 percent, the second consecutive month of increase after April 2025. Exports totaled 81,071 units, a decrease of 9.20 percent. Electric vehicle production reached 6,411 units, an increase of 641.16 percent. Sales of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) reached 11,274 units, an increase of 120.32 percent.

Suraphong Phaisitphatthanaphong, Vice-Chairman and Spokesperson for the Automotive Industry Club, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), revealed the following figures for domestic production, sales, and exports of automobiles and motorcycles in May 2025:
Production
The total number of automobiles produced in May 2025 was 139,186 units, an increase of 33.51 percent from April 2025 and an increase of 10.32 percent from May 2024. This marks the first increase in 21 months, driven by increased production of BEV and PHEV electric vehicles by 641.16 percent and 130.49 percent, respectively. As a result, domestic production of passenger cars increased by 63.88 percent, and PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles) production for domestic sale increased by 138.65 percent.
The total number of automobiles produced from January to May 2025 was 594,492 units, a decrease of 7.82 percent from January to May 2024.
Passenger cars: In May 2025, 54,135 units were produced, an increase of 15.30 percent from May 2024, categorized as follows:
• Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars: 25,211 units, a decrease of 15.78 percent from May 2024.
• Battery Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 6,411 units, an increase of 641.16 percent from May 2024.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 1,837 units, an increase of 130.49 percent from May 2024.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 20,676 units, an increase of 34.66 percent from May 2024.
Passenger car production from January to May 2025 totaled 213,649 units, representing 35.94 percent of total production, a decrease of 11.05 percent from January to May 2024, categorized as follows:
• Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars: 91,710 units, a decrease of 37.79 percent from January to May 2024.
• Battery Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 20,494 units, an increase of 393.12 percent from January to May 2024.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 9,620 units, an increase of 271.29 percent from January to May 2024.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle passenger cars: 91,825 units, an increase of 6.75 percent from January to May 2024.
Passenger cars under 10 tons and over 10 tons: There was no production in May 2025, and no production for the total period of January to May 2025.
Trucks: In May 2025, a total of 85,051 units were produced, an increase of 7.37 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 380,843 units were produced, a decrease of 5.91 percent from January to May 2024.
1-ton pickup trucks: In May 2025, a total of 84,475 units were produced, an increase of 7.86 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 377,186 units were produced, representing 63.45 percent of total production, a decrease of 4.35 percent from January to May 2024, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks (cargo): 60,453 units, a decrease of 11.04 percent from January to May 2024.
• Double cab pickup trucks: 242,443 units, a decrease of 6.78 percent from January to May 2024.
• PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 74,290 units, an increase of 12.09 percent from January to May 2024.
Trucks under 5 tons to over 10 tons: In May 2025, 576 units were produced, a decrease of 35.35 percent from May 2024. For the total period of January to May 2025, 3,657 units were produced, a decrease of 64.94 percent from January to May 2024.

Production for Export
In May 2025, 87,297 units were produced for export, representing 62.72 percent of total production, a decrease of 1.70 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, 390,095 units were produced for export, representing 65.62 percent of total production, a decrease of 10.20 percent from the same period in 2024.
Passenger cars: In May 2025, 18,627 units were produced for export, a decrease of 26.33 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 73,116 units were produced for export, representing 34.22 percent of passenger car production, a decrease of 42.82 percent from January to May 2024.
1-ton pickup trucks: In May 2025, 68,670 units were produced for export, an increase of 8.10 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 316,979 units were produced for export, representing 84.04 percent of pickup truck production, an increase of 3.41 percent from January to May 2024, categorized as follows:
• Pickup trucks (cargo): 36,073 units, an increase of 36.26 percent from January to May 2024.
• Double cab pickup trucks: 221,633 units, a decrease of 1.70 percent from January to May 2024.
• PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 59,273 units, an increase of 8.55 percent from January to May 2024.
Production for Domestic Sale
In May 2025, 51,889 units were produced for domestic sale, representing 35.65 percent of total production, an increase of 38.92 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, 204,397 units were produced, representing 37.28 percent of total production, a decrease of 2.91 percent from January to May 2024.
Passenger cars: In May 2025, 35,508 units were produced for domestic sale, an increase of 63.88 percent from May 2024. And from January to May 2024, 140,533 units were produced, representing 65.78 percent of passenger car production. When compared to January to May 2024, there was an increase of 25.13 percent.
1-ton pickup trucks: In May 2025, 15,805 units were produced for domestic sale, an increase of 6.83 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 60,207 units were produced, representing 15.96 percent of pickup truck production, and a decrease of 31.42 percent from January to May 2024, which is divided into:
• Pickup trucks (cargo): 24,380 units, a decrease of 41.23 percent from January to May 2024.
• Double cab pickup trucks: 20,810 units, a decrease of 39.91 percent from January to May 2024.
• PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 15,017 units, an increase of 28.64 percent from January to May 2024.
Passenger cars under 10 tons and over 10 tons: There was no production in May 2025, and no production for the total period of January to May 2025.
Trucks: In May 2025, 576 units were produced, a decrease of 35.35 percent from May 2024. From January to May 2025, a total of 3,657 units were produced, a decrease of 64.94 percent from January to May 2024.

Motorcycles
In May 2025, a total of 210,349 motorcycles were produced, an increase of 9.57 percent from May 2024. This is divided into 177,309 Completely Built Units (CBU), an increase of 5.42 percent from 2024, and 33,040 Completely Knocked Down kits (CKD), an increase of 38.94 percent from 2024.
Motorcycle production from January to May 2025 totaled 1,064,381 units, an increase of 5 percent from 2024. This is divided into Completely Built Units (CBU) of 865,858 units, an increase of 3.33 percent from 2024, and Completely Knocked Down kits (CKD) of 198,523 units, an increase of 13 percent from 2024.
Sales
Domestic car sales in May 2025 totaled 52,229 units, an increase of 10.67 percent from April 2025 and an increase of 4.73 percent from May 2024, marking the second consecutive month of increase after April 2025. This was due to increased sales of BEV, PHEV, and Internal Combustion Engine passenger cars by 118.64 percent, 234.68 percent, and 3.19 percent, respectively, resulting from more accessible prices. However, pickup truck sales continued to decrease by 24.84 percent due to stricter credit approval by financial institutions because of high household debt, and the weak domestic economy due to low private sector investment, as well as rising living costs. Additionally, tourism has slowed down due to Chinese tourists' concerns about safety and concerns about the annual expenditure budget for 2026 not being utilized on October 1st due to ongoing political conflicts, which will further exacerbate the already deteriorating economy of the country.
Passenger cars and SUVs: 35,560 units, representing 68.08 percent of total sales, an increase of 19.82 percent from the same month last year.
• Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and SUVs: 13,769 units, representing 26.36 percent of total sales, a decrease of 3.19 percent from the same month last year.
• Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 11,188 units, representing 21.42 percent of total sales, an increase of 118.64 percent from the same month last year.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 743 units, representing 1.42 percent of total sales, an increase of 234.68 percent from the same month last year.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 9,860 units, representing 18.88 percent of total sales, a decrease of 10.34 percent from the same month last year.
Pickup trucks: 11,148 units, a decrease of 24.84 percent from the same month last year. Electric pickup trucks (BEV): 86 units (no sales recorded last year). PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 3,099 units, an increase of 9.93 percent from the same month last year. 5-10 ton trucks: 1,178 units, a decrease of 7.97 percent from the same month last year. And other types of vehicles: 1,158 units, a decrease of 8.17 percent from the same month last year.
As for motorcycles, sales reached 164,654 units, an increase of 24.79 percent from April 2024, but a decrease of 0.41 percent from May 2024.
From January to May 2025, car sales totaled 252,615 units, a decrease of 2.98 percent from the same period in 2024, categorized as follows:
Passenger cars and SUVs: 162,748 units, representing 64.43 percent of total sales, an increase of 4.07 percent from the same period last year.
• Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) passenger cars and SUVs: 61,704 units, representing 24.43 percent of total sales, a decrease of 11.84 percent from the same period last year.
• Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 44,821 units, representing 17.74 percent of total sales, an increase of 59.23 percent from the same period last year.
• Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 4,447 units, representing 1.77 percent of total sales, an increase of 353.31 percent from the same period last year.
• Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) passenger cars and SUVs: 51,776 units, representing 20.50 percent of passenger car and SUV sales, a decrease of 9.58 percent from the same period last year.
Pickup trucks: 62,467 units, a decrease of 17.27 percent from the same period last year. Electric pickup trucks (BEV): 259 units (no sales recorded last year). PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 15,365 units, a decrease of 5.48 percent from the same period last year. 5-10 ton trucks: 5,853 units, a decrease of 14.01 percent from the same period last year. And other types of vehicles: 5,923 units, an increase of 9.54 percent from the same period last year.
As for motorcycles, sales reached 751,848 units, an increase of 1.60 percent from January to May 2024.

Exports
Completely Built Units (CBU)
In May 2025, 81,071 units were exported, an increase of 23.34 percent from the previous month, but a decrease of 9.20 percent from May 2024. This decrease was due to the cessation of production of some passenger car models no longer exported to the United States and Europe due to stricter regulations on driver assistance systems, hence no passenger cars were exported to the European market. However, pickup truck exports increased in line with higher production of pickup trucks for export in May, and exports also increased to the Australian and Middle Eastern markets. HEV car exports still increased by 17.48 percent. Automobile and parts exports remain uncertain due to US import tariffs and regional conflicts, which will slow down the global economy and trade.
As for engine, automotive parts, and automobile spare parts exports, they increased as follows:
Types of vehicles exported in May 2025 are divided as follows:
• Pickup trucks: 52,584 units, representing 64.86 percent of total exports, an increase of 4.83 percent from 2024.
• ICE passenger cars: 11,954 units, representing 14.75 percent of total exports, a decrease of 46.63 percent from 2024.
• BEV passenger cars: No exports.
• HEV passenger cars: 5,174 units, representing 6.38 percent of total exports, an increase of 17.48 percent from 2024.
• PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 11,359 units, representing 14.01 percent of total exports, a decrease of 7.81 percent from 2024.
Value of automobile exports: 55,163.36 million Baht, a decrease of 12.54 percent from May 2024.
• Engines: Export value of 3,135.13 million Baht, an increase of 0.90 percent from May 2024.
• Other automotive parts: Export value of 15,753.04 million Baht, an increase of 2.27 percent from May 2024.
• Automobile spare parts: Export value of 2,380.63 million Baht, an increase of 9.74 percent from May 2024.
Total export value of automobiles, engines, automotive parts, and spare parts in May 2025 was 76,432.16 million Baht, a decrease of 8.74 percent from May 2024.
From January to May 2025, 371,272 Completely Built Units (CBU) were exported, a decrease of 13.65 percent from the same period, categorized as follows:
• ICE pickup trucks: 240,030 units, representing 64.65 percent of total exports, a decrease of 2.80 percent from 2024.
• ICE passenger cars: 53,651 units, representing 14.45 percent of total exports, a decrease of 46.37 percent from 2024.
• BEV passenger cars: 660 units, representing 0.26 percent of total exports (no exports in 2024).
• HEV passenger cars: 22,214 units, representing 5.98 percent of total exports, a decrease of 6.75 percent from 2024.
• PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicles): 54,717 units, representing 14.74 percent of total exports, a decrease of 7.53 percent from 2024.
Value of automobile exports: 256,931.34 million Baht, a decrease of 14.46 percent from January to May 2024, with details as follows:
• Engines: Export value of 15,170.37 million Baht, an increase of 18.74 percent from January to May 2024.
• Other automotive parts: Export value of 78,703.04 million Baht, an increase of 0.91 percent from January to May 2024.
• Automobile spare parts: Export value of 11,129.26 million Baht, an increase of 6.03 percent from January to May 2024.
Total export value of automobiles, engines, automotive parts, and spare parts from January to May 2025 was 361,934.01 million Baht, a decrease of 9.89 percent from January to May 2024.

Motorcycles
In May 2025, 67,056 motorcycles were exported (including CBU+CKD), a decrease of 9.53 percent from April 2025 but an increase of 26.27 percent from May 2024. The export value was 4,792.54 million Baht, an increase of 3.99 percent from May 2024.
• Motorcycle parts: Total export value of 203.94 million Baht, an increase of 26.32 percent from May 2024.
• Motorcycle spare parts: Total export value of 220.52 million Baht, an increase of 292.91 percent from May 2024.
Total export value of motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts in May 2025 was 5,217.00 million Baht, an increase of 8.10 percent from May 2024.
From January to May 2025, 370,375 motorcycles were exported (including CBU+CKD), an increase of 3 percent from 2024. The value was 26,653.58 million Baht, a decrease of 6.76 percent from 2024.
• Motorcycle parts: Total export value of 898.67 million Baht, a decrease of 10.32 percent from 2024.
• Motorcycle spare parts: Total export value of 1,064.99 million Baht, an increase of 46.63 percent from 2024.
Total export value of motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts from January to May 2025 was 28,617.24 million Baht, a decrease of 5.59 percent from January to May 2024.
In May 2025, the total export value of completely built automobiles, engines, other parts, automobile spare parts, motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts was 81,649.16 million Baht, a decrease of 7.82 percent from 2024.
From January to May 2025, the total export value of completely built automobiles, engines, other parts, automobile spare parts, motorcycles, parts, and motorcycle spare parts was 390,551.25 million Baht, a decrease of 9.58 percent from 2024.
New Registered BEV Electric Vehicles in May 2025
In May 2025, 13,935 new Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) were registered, an increase of 70.65 percent from May last year, categorized as follows:
• Passenger cars and various types of automobiles: 12,054 units, an increase of 120.97 percent from May 2024.
o Passenger cars: 11,827 units
o Passenger vehicles not exceeding 7 persons: 221 units
o Business service vehicles: 2 units
o Tourist service vehicles: 4 units
• Pickup trucks and vans: 14 units, an increase of 40 percent from May 2024.
