“Save time, help solve traffic problems with the insurance system”
The Thai General Insurance Association, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Police and the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project “Car Accident: Take Photos, Separate, No Waiting” with the objective to enable vehicles with voluntary motor insurance involved in accidents to separate or move their vehicles off the traffic surface without waiting for police officers or insurance company officers. The incident reporting centers of insurance companies, claims adjusters, or responsible officers of insurance companies will have the same guidelines: when a general insurance company receives a report that a vehicle insured with voluntary motor insurance (of any type) with the insurance company has an accident resulting in minor property damage, with no injuries or fatalities, the incident reporting center of the insurance company, claims adjuster, or responsible officer of the company will advise the driver and the other party to take photos and recommend moving the vehicle off the traffic surface voluntarily to prevent traffic congestion and to ensure the safety of drivers or road users, without waiting for police officers or insurance company officers to arrive at the scene.
Guidelines
1. When your vehicle is involved in a minor collision with another party, with minor damage and no injuries or fatalities.
2. Negotiate with the other party (the driver of the colliding vehicle) to agree on who is at fault and inform the insurance company.
3. Once an agreement is reached, use a mobile phone to take photos of the scene, including both vehicles involved in the accident, and the driving licenses.
4. You can immediately leave the scene without waiting for the insurance company or the police.
- Move the vehicles to the side of the road to avoid obstructing traffic (if one party has insurance but the other does not).
- You can leave the scene immediately to continue your errands without waiting by the roadside if both vehicles have voluntary insurance.
5. If you have voluntary insurance, call your insurance company to inform them and process your claim. The insurance company will use the photos as evidence for liability.
Recommendations for taking photos of the incident and resulting damage. Before separating the vehicles, both close-up and long-distance photos should be taken. 1. Close-up shots: To show the damage to the vehicle, and 2. Long-distance shots: To show the overall scene of the incident (road - traffic lane - collision).
Why is "Hit and Separate" good?
Easy: Just take photos of the vehicles and the scene as evidence.
Convenient: Both drivers can come to an agreement, and the insurance company will be responsible.
Fast: You can separate immediately without wasting time waiting for the insurance company or the police.
Don't forget!
