Amendment to the Land Traffic Act: Drivers and passengers in both front and back seats must wear seat belts. Violators will be fined.
Hot topics for road users have been emerging continuously, but for this matter, let's discuss the "seat belt" measure a bit. From the latest announcement in the Royal Gazette: Order of the Head of the National Council for Peace and Order No. 14/2560 on Measures to Enhance the Efficiency of Enforcing Land Traffic Laws
Currently, there are many drivers or vehicle owners who violate or fail to comply with land traffic laws, exhibiting behavior that avoids and ignores legal enforcement. Moreover, such offenses are repeatedly committed within a short period. This behavior affects the safety of lives and property, as well as the public order of road users. Therefore, it is necessary to improve mechanisms and establish additional legal measures to ensure strict law enforcement, which will benefit the reform of the transportation system and overall social order. By virtue of Section 44 of the Interim Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand B.E. 2557, the Head of the National Council for Peace and Order, with the approval of the National Council for Peace and Order, hereby issues the following order:
Clause 2: The content of the second paragraph of Section 123 of the Land Traffic Act
B.E. 2522, as amended by the Land Traffic Act (No. 5) B.E. 2538, shall be repealed and replaced with the following:

Volume 134 Special Part 85 D, Royal Gazette, 21 March 2560 “The driver of a motor vehicle must fasten their body with a seat belt to the seat while driving the vehicle, and must ensure that passengers in the vehicle fasten their bodies to the seats with seat belts while riding in the vehicle, and said passengers must also fasten their bodies with seat belts to the seats while riding in the vehicle.”
In addition to the driver, passengers must also wear seat belts, both in the front and back seats. Violators will be issued a ticket to pay a fine. If the fine is not paid within the specified period, the Department of Land Transport will refuse to renew the annual vehicle tax, and the investigating officer will proceed with legal action in court.
Actually, "wearing seat belts" and helmets are extremely important. Even without legal enforcement, we shouldn't neglect them. Why? Watch the clip: What happens if you don't wear a seat belt?
