D-Day January 15, 2019 onwards, the Department of Land Transport adds convenience by developing driver's licenses into Electronic 4.0 format. Scan QR codes via the DLT QR Licence application to display a realistic virtual driver's license, both front and back, and a system to notify of upcoming driver's license expiry, helping to efficiently plan actions related to the driver's license. Initially, it must still be used in conjunction with carrying the smart card driver's license.

The Department of Land Transportadds a convenient option for driver's license holders with a QR Code on the back of the card by using a smartphone or tablet to scan the QR code via the DLT QR Licence application, which will display a realistic virtual Electronic driver's license, both front and back, along with a notification system for processing license type changes (from temporary to 5-year personal) or applying for license renewal in advance, which is beneficial for efficiently planning future actions. 

Benefits of the DLT QR Licence Application

- In addition to what appears on the card, such as drug allergy history, blood type, congenital diseases, right to receive medical treatment, emergency contact number

- In case of emergency, there will be an SOS menu for assistance, allowing quick calls or SMS messages to specified contacts in an emergency, and helpers can check the cardholder's information before providing initial medical treatment. 

- Users can share their travel routes with family or others, such as parents wanting to know their children's travel routes, or sharing public transport vehicle registration numbers

How to download and use the DLT Smart Licence digital driver's license

1. Download the DLT QR Licence application, compatible with operating systems iOS on the App Store and Android on the Play Store

2. Register by entering your ID card number, email
3. The system sends an OTP code via email
4. Set a password to log in
5. Scan the QR code on the back of your driver's license
6. Access the menu to display the virtual driver's license

If you wish to display a virtual Electronic driver's license via smartphone or tablet or want to receive notification services, you can request to change to a driver's license with a QR Code at any Department of Land Transport office nationwide. There will be a fee of 105 Baht for issuing the replacement, and if there are changes to the name-surname or address, an additional 50 Baht will be charged for data modification. Since 2003, after the cancellation of lifetime driver's licenses, the Department of Land Transport has had a plan to develop a system to facilitate holders of both lifetime licenses and temporary licenses (every 2 and 5 years), as well as people wishing to obtain new driver's licenses for both cars and motorcycles, by allowing them to download the application via mobile phone, with one license card linked to one phone number. This will replace the need to carry the current physical driver's license, as police officers can also verify an individual's details via mobile phone data.
