The new Chevrolet Colorado is truly a global product. During its development, there was collaboration from Thailand, Australia, Brazil, and the United States to ensure that this pickup truck not only meets market demands but also exceeds all consumer expectations.
Wanchana Unakun, General Director of Engineering for GM Thailand and Southeast Asia, said, “The new Colorado has been developed in many aspects, not only in its beautiful and more luxurious exterior and interior design but, more importantly, in its improved driving performance. The most significant highlights are the adjustments to the suspension, engine, and transmission systems.”
“It is widely known that the Chevrolet Colorado already stands out for its robustness. Therefore, we focused on further fine-tuning details by reducing wind noise and vibrations.”
Robust and refined design The new look emphasizes eye-catching appeal with slender LED daytime running lights designed to attract all eyes on the road.
The interior of the new Colorado has been completely redesigned with a focus on comfort, spaciousness, and technology. A pickup truck engineered for powerful and comfortable driving with a revised 2.5-liter Duramax 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine for improved performance, better fuel economy, and reduced emissions, using a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). The 2.5-liter Duramax engine produces 180 horsepower (132 kW) at 3,600 rpm and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque at a low 2,000 rpm. This engine meets Euro 4 emission standards.
Engine performance is controlled by an Engine Control Unit (ECU) developed by GM to specifically enhance the driving characteristics of this engine model. It features over 150 patented GM control functions, which help coordinate the interaction between software and hardware for maximum efficiency.
The transmission system is a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual, depending on the sub-model. The 6-speed manual transmission has been retuned with new gear ratios to help improve performance and fuel economy.
The 2.5-liter Duramax engine is equipped with noise-absorbing material around the injectors to operate more quietly. All Colorado models also come with new body mounts and engine mounts, which help reduce engine vibrations, resulting in lower noise and vibration levels inside the cabin. Engineer tests show that the new Colorado's cabin is 2-4 decibels quieter and has reduced vibrations.
The robust suspension system provides even greater stability, enhancing driver comfort. The cabin is isolated from the suspension system by body mounts, which reduce noise and vibrations, while also allowing for more agile and planted driving. The new disc brake set operates with reduced noise. Furthermore, the new suspension system is tuned with digressive shock absorbers, contributing to the Colorado's comfortable ride and superior stability.
It comes with an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system that provides comfortable steering for city driving and parking, while also improving fuel efficiency. The steering system gains weight with increased driving speed, so the new Colorado has appropriate steering feel at higher speeds.
Packed with premium pickup-style conveniences The new Colorado comes with the latest technology found only in premium pickup trucks.
Advanced Safety Systems Safety remains paramount for Chevrolet, and the new Colorado perfectly reflects this philosophy with active and passive safety systems (depending on the model), including Traction Control System (TCS) for preventing wheel spin during takeoff and cornering, Panic Brake Assist (PBA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Hill Start Assist (HSA), along with front airbags for the driver and passenger, and a knee airbag for the driver.
Driver Assistance Systems The latest Colorado stands out with a lane departure warning system, forward collision alert system, front and rear parking assist system, and tire pressure monitoring system. Additionally, it features rain sensors, automatic on/off headlights, and a remote start function, which is very useful when parked outdoors as it allows starting the engine from the key to cool down the cabin before getting in. Meanwhile, the front parking assist system and rearview camera make driving in confined spaces much easier. Other functions also include front power windows that slightly lower to assist in closing doors (depending on the model).
Superior Connectivity
Connectivity is essential for today's drivers, which is why the new Colorado is equipped with technology found only in premium pickup trucks. The new Colorado is the first pickup truck in its segment to support Apple CarPlay connectivity, allowing customers to display their smartphone screen on the vehicle's touchscreen.
Additionally, it features Siri Eyes Free and voice command software, allowing drivers to operate functions by voice without taking their hands off the steering wheel. This system aims to cater to the lifestyle of Colorado drivers who can explore new paths for both work and travel.
Chevrolet, an American car brand that has built a legend in pickup truck production for almost 100 years (started production in 1918), today launched the new Colorado, manufactured in Thailand, the world's largest 1-ton pickup truck production base.
