Toyota announced the direction of the Thai automotive industry for May, with sales growing 10.60 % compared to the same period last year. The trend for June is expected to improve slightly, in line with indices and oil prices.
Suphakon Rattanawaraha, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., stated that the automotive market in May 2026 saw domestic car sales totaling 57,765 units, an increase of 10.60 % compared to the same period last year. The passenger car and SUV (Passenger Car+SUV) market had sales of 40,907 units, an increase of 15.04 % from May last year. Meanwhile, pickup trucks had sales of 11,171 units, an increase of 0.21 % from May last year. Electric pickup trucks (BEV) had sales of 201 units, an increase of 133.72 % from May last year, and PPVs had sales of 3,164 units, an increase of 2.10 % from the same month last year.

As for the automotive market trend in June, it is expected to improve slightly according to the Seasonal Index, and oil prices tend to fall back to pre-war levels. However, consumers remain concerned about the uncertain tension in the Middle East, which may lead the public to be cautious with spending and postpone purchasing decisions.
Toyota continues to maintain strong leadership in all product segments, with a market share of 34.39 %. While the overall Pure Pickup segment market shows signs of slowing down, Toyota Hilux has maintained its leading position with average sales of 6,300 units/month since the beginning of the year.
Furthermore, the Eco Segment shows clear signs of recovery, with the Yaris Ativ, Toyota's best-selling model in this segment, achieving average sales of up to 6,000 units/month during January-May. The Passenger Car (PC) and SUV segments are also showing recovery, led by key products such as the Yaris Cross with average sales of 2,900 units/month and the Corolla Cross with average sales of 1,400 units/month.
The period from January to May reflects a positive market response and sustained momentum. The success across all these product segments is a crucial factor, reaffirming that most customers still have confidence in Toyota, allowing it to maintain its leading position in the Thai automotive market.”
